Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions will I need?

Everyone's journey is different and the number of sessions needed will depend on individual circumstances.  Some need very few sessions whilst others continue for months or longer.  Your sessions are pay as you go so it is always up to you to decide whether you need additional sessions.

How often should I have sessions?

Sessions usually take place weekly or fortnightly as long gaps may reduce the therapeutic impact.  However, it is up to you to decide what frequency seems right for you.

Can I return to counselling after a period of time if needed?

Yes - Life changes constantly and we all need support at different times in our lives.  Sessions can recommence at any time.

What is your cancellation policy?

Sessions must be cancelled 24 hours prior to the appointment time by email, text or phone call.  If this notice is not give you may be charged the full session rate as the appointment can't then be offered to other clients.

Can you see more than one family member?

One of the key benefits of counselling is the impartiality and confidentiality it brings.  Therefore, I am unable to work with members of the same family at any time.  Couples / Family therapy is not something I am able to provide at this time.

Can you provide me with medication or a diagnosis?

Counselling can sometimes be useful in conjunction with medication but I am not medically qualified so this would always need to be discussed with your GP.  Similarly,  I am not qualified to make any diagnosis so this would also need to be discussed with a medical professional.

Is there parking available for face to face sessions?

If coming for a face to face appointment you are welcome to park on the driveway if there is space or block the driveway.  The property is on a residential street with plenty of parking available in nearby streets.

Which counselling works best - online, telephone or face to face?

This really comes down to personal preference.  Counselling can be effective no matter how it is delivered but whatever method you chose the most important thing is that you dedicate time and focus to your sessions and that you ensure that you have access to a quiet, confidential space during sessions.

Can I bring someone with me to face to face sessions?

With the exception of clients under the age of 16 at their first session or those with access requirements, sessions will always take place individually to create a confidential, focussed,  safe space for counselling to take place.  Face to face sessions take place in a residential setting so there is unfortunately no wating room available for friends/family.

What is your confidentiality policy?

Confidentiality is at the heart of what makes counselling so effective so everything discussed in counselling is completely confidential.  There are however very rare circumstances where I may need to get support for you or someone else and you can read about these circumstances on the confidentiality page of this website.  If I felt it necessary to involve any other service or individual I would always discuss with you first wherever possible.
